Do I need to purchase Frigo® Cheese Heads® Snack Cheese to participate?
No purchase of any kind is necessary to participate.
What schools are eligible for nomination?
You may nominate any U.S. school (public, private, parochial) that enrolls students in any grade from kindergarten through 8th. For example, both K-6 grade schools and 7-9 middle schools would qualify.
I have kids in more than one school. How many schools can I nominate?
You may nominate up to two qualifying schools.
How many times can I vote for a school?
The five finalist schools are announced, and public voting begins, on October 17, 2016. At that point, you may vote once per day until the voting period ends on October 31, 2016.
How will nominations be judged?
Between October 1 and October 16, 2016, a our judges will select five finalist schools from among all entries based on the following criteria:
- - Overall Appeal (40%)
- - Feasibility (40%): whether the $10,000 can reasonably contribute to accomplishing the project described in your entry
- - Creativity (20%)
Are home schools eligible?
No, only state-accredited educational institutions are eligible.
How long can my nomination essay be?
Please submit a nomination essay no shorter than 50 words and no longer than 200 words.
How much do the winning schools receive?
One (1) winning school will receive $10,000, plus a National Geographic Emerging Explorer Live Show school visit, $1,500 of National Geographic books and educational materials and a 1 year subscription to National Geographic Kids magazine for every student at the school. Four (4) runner-up schools will each receive $2,500.
When will winning schools be notified and announced?
After the public voting phase ends on October 31, 2016, we’ll notify the winning and runner-up schools on or around November 30, 2016. Winning/runner-up schools will be announced after required qualification.
